Popular Appeal of Teslas: Understanding Their Rise in 2022
Written on
Chapter 1: The Tesla Phenomenon
I often found myself pondering the reasons behind the growing popularity of Teslas. A few years ago, I would only catch sight of one or two on the roads each month. Now, it's common to encounter at least ten Teslas daily, predominantly Model 3s and Model Ys. But what’s behind this surge? Here’s what I’ve learned.
Tesla has been frequently referred to as the "Apple of EVs." Just as Apple leads in various markets, particularly in the United States, Tesla has similarly established itself as a dominant force in the electric vehicle sector. The presence of Teslas on the streets far exceeds that of competitors like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6, making it the go-to brand for many consumers. Furthermore, anticipation is building for new models such as the Tesla Cybertruck, Semi, and Roadster, with whispers of a more affordable option dubbed the Model 2.
Section 1.1: Tesla as a Standard
When discussing electric vehicles, Tesla is often the first name that comes to mind, thanks to its pioneering role in the industry. Although the starting price of the Model 3 is around $48,000, it appears many consumers are willing to invest in this vehicle due to its impressive range, efficiency, advanced technology, and overall performance. The Tesla Model 3 Long Range, for instance, is currently out of stock, highlighting the strong demand that Tesla must address.
Subsection 1.1.1: Unmatched Supercharger Network
Section 1.2: The Supercharger Advantage
Tesla's Supercharger network is unparalleled when it comes to charging electric vehicles. While charging stations don't match the ubiquity of traditional gas stations, Tesla's Supercharger network stands out against competitors like Electrify America. Not only are Tesla chargers more reliable, but they also provide a faster charging experience. Marques Brownlee has an insightful video on his MKBHD channel where he compares the charging experiences of a Tesla, a Ford EV, and a traditional vehicle during a road trip. The Electrify America network fell short, with several stations being out of service or requiring maintenance.
Charging at a Tesla Supercharger may not be instantaneous, but a 30-minute session can typically charge a Model 3 to about 80%—a significant advantage for Tesla owners.
Chapter 2: My Shift Toward Electric Vehicles
As I contemplate my next vehicle purchase, I’ve decided to transition to an electric car. Whether I choose a Tesla or another competing brand will depend on the alternatives available at that time. For now, however, I’m inclined to stick with Tesla. I plan to make the switch to an electric vehicle by 2025, so expect to see even more Teslas on the roads in the years to come!
