Finding Balance: Embracing Short-Form Articles in a Busy Life

Chapter 1: My Writing Journey
Since I began my online writing journey, my life has undergone significant changes.
Initially, about a year and a half ago, I had ample time to dedicate to writing. Working from home full-time allowed me to spend my evenings and weekends pursuing various interests, including creating content. Additionally, taking over a year off from alcohol consumption opened up more time for me and ignited a fresh motivation to write.
However, my current situation is quite different. Now, I have a newborn who requires my constant attention. While I cherish this new phase of my life, I’ve found that nap times are brief and don’t always leave me with the freedom to write as I once did. Consequently, I have adapted my approach to writing.
Section 1.1: The Shift to Short-Form Content
Writing shorter articles has enabled me to maintain my writing practice within my new limitations. Here’s what I’ve discovered:
- Earning Potential: Short articles can be just as lucrative as their longer counterparts. I previously believed that longer articles, particularly those around four minutes in length, would yield higher earnings. I assumed that extended read times would naturally lead to increased income. However, I’ve learned that if a shorter piece is engaging enough, it can attract more readers and generate comparable revenue to some longer articles.
- Increased Output: Writing more frequently is essential for me. Being able to publish every few days keeps me motivated and on track. By focusing on shorter pieces, I can complete and share more work regularly.
- Attractive Titles Matter: Engaging titles are crucial. A collection of long articles with dull titles won’t attract readers. Instead, a mix of article lengths paired with captivating titles leads to better engagement.
- Enhanced Interaction: My experiences show that shorter articles can sometimes foster more engagement. I’ve written lengthy pieces that attracted little attention, while brief articles have sparked lively discussions. Ultimately, creating content that encourages interaction is essential. If readers are commenting, I know my writing has connected with them.
Subsection 1.1.1: The Reality of Consistency
Maintaining consistency in my writing is important, especially as a new parent. Although I know it will be challenging, writing shorter pieces allows me to keep up with my writing goals. I can work during quick nap times without needing to interrupt my flow or come back to it later. This flexibility helps me continue writing, enjoying the process without overwhelming pressure.
Key Message: In the past, I focused on crafting medium to long-form articles, believing they would yield better results. However, I’ve found that short-form articles are more suitable for my current circumstances.
