How to Work Like a Genius: 5 Steps to Boost Productivity

Written on

Chapter 1: Understanding Genius

While some individuals like Albert Einstein are celebrated as geniuses, many people we label as such are simply extremely productive. Their ability to accomplish a great deal often gives the impression of brilliance. Essentially, these individuals maximize their average IQ, which can be considered a form of genius. Here’s how you can enhance your productivity and work intelligently, even if you don’t see yourself as a genius.

Section 1.1: Eliminate Distractions

To cultivate an environment that promotes productivity, you must first remove distractions.

  • Put away your cell phone.
  • Block distracting websites on your computer.
  • Unplug the TV.

In today's world, focus has become a rare ability. Many of us struggle with attention spans comparable to that of a goldfish. Engaging in meditation can enhance both focus and clarity, and together, they can significantly improve your work efficiency.

Section 1.2: Chunk Your Work

This can be interpreted in two ways:

  1. The Sprint-Rest-Repeat Method: Work diligently for 45 minutes followed by a break.
  2. Batch Similar Tasks Together: For instance, if you need to make ten phone calls, do them all at once. If you have emails to respond to, handle them in batches.

Chapter 2: Streamlining Your Workflow

The first video, "5 Ways to Train Yourself to Be a Genius," offers practical strategies for enhancing cognitive abilities and productivity.

Section 2.1: Delegate Responsibilities

If you’re in a leadership position, delegating tasks is straightforward. You have team members designated for specific roles. However, if you are not in a managerial role, consider outsourcing tasks or sharing responsibilities with family. For example, we have involved our children in household chores to lighten our load. My partner also takes on various tasks around the home, allowing me to concentrate on my studies and writing.

Section 2.2: The '6 Tasks' Rule (Ivy Lee Method)

The principle here is to limit your daily focus to a maximum of six tasks. Choose these tasks thoughtfully. Personally, I ensure that each of my daily tasks contributes to my health, relationships, or wealth. My essential daily tasks include working out, sleeping for over seven hours, publishing a piece of content, dedicating at least 30 minutes to schoolwork, and enjoying a family dinner.

The second video, "Train Your Brain to Think Like a Genius," provides insights into developing a mindset that fosters creativity and intellectual growth.

Section 2.3: Plan Your Day

Each night, take a moment to outline your plans for the following day. This practice helps establish a routine, making it easier to follow through with your commitments over time. Recently, I considered taking a day off, but my body instinctively followed my established routine until I could re-engage with my daily life.
