Revamping Your Content Strategy: A Guide for 2023

Chapter 1: Transforming Your Content Approach
Your content should be your greatest asset, even if it currently isn’t.
When novice writers venture into a new blogging platform, they are often overwhelmed by an influx of information, tips, and tricks from various experts.
The multitude of sources can confuse rather than clarify, complicating the learning experience.
This bombardment often leads to impatience and frustration, resulting in wasted time and missed opportunities.
This is not merely a broad observation about the journey of online writers but a reflection of my own experiences over the last two years on Medium.
Through extensive experimentation, I made numerous errors and squandered precious time.
However, one positive outcome of this journey has been gaining a clearer understanding of what strategies are effective and which ones fall flat.
Now, drawing from my past experiences, I am committed to refining my content creation process to rectify my earlier missteps on this platform.
Following Trends
One of the advantages of Medium is its flexibility; it allows you to write across various subjects without being confined to a single niche.
I’ve noticed that many successful writers cover multiple topics and encourage their followers to do the same, which is perfectly acceptable.
These accomplished writers consistently produce content on trending subjects, and I believe this serves as a marketing tactic to expand their audience reach.
This approach undoubtedly attracts more views, which is a straightforward strategy to gain visibility.
Given the opportunity to write on diverse topics, why not do it strategically?
I plan to create content on trending subjects alongside my primary niche for several reasons:
- Trending topics often require minimal research or readily available material.
- Such content can lead to immediate and broader audience engagement.
- Increased visibility translates to more views and followers.
The first video, "Here's How to WIN at Content Marketing in 2023," outlines essential strategies for creating impactful content that resonates with audiences.
Crafting Headlines
Over my months on Medium, I've learned valuable lessons about effective practices on this platform.
If you have a decent readership and publish in reputable publications but still struggle to gain views, the issue might lie in your headlines.
Often, an average article with an eye-catching headline outperforms a well-researched piece with a lackluster title.
This insight has convinced me to invest more effort into crafting compelling headlines moving forward.
Here’s my plan:
- Allocate ample time for developing headlines.
- Utilize free AI tools like ChatGPT, HubSpot, and SEOpressor.
- Generate 8–10 potential titles before selecting the most effective one.
Keeping Posts Concise
No one enjoys lengthy, drawn-out content unless it’s a riveting topic like alien encounters or sports debates.
While you may aspire to engage your audience with extensive insights, it’s crucial to recognize that brevity often leads to better engagement, especially when you’re still establishing your presence.
I challenge myself to convey my points as engagingly as possible while minimizing word count.
To achieve this, I plan to set a word limit for each section of my posts and adhere to it, ensuring I deliver easily digestible content to my readers.
Enhancing Your Writing Voice
A strong writing voice signifies mastery over your craft.
It’s about conveying emotions rather than just words.
A distinctive voice enhances the quality of your writing, captivating readers and setting you apart from others.
To refine my writing voice, I will focus on reading more critically and writing consistently.
But there’s a caveat!
As I read, I will analyze how my favorite authors manipulate language and present ideas in an engaging manner.
This approach may take longer but yields significant results, as I’ve found through personal experience.
By adopting this analytical reading habit, I’ll gradually absorb new writing techniques that will be reflected in my future work.
Consistency is Key
Regardless of how skilled you are at writing or marketing, progress is unattainable without consistent effort.
I can attest to the timeless truth that consistency is essential.
After two years of learning more and writing less, I realized my primary mistake as an online writer.
I’ve concluded that the best way to learn is through practice.
To correct my past errors, I’ve committed to posting content at least 2 to 3 times a week to engage with the Medium community and its algorithms.
Shifting Focus from Metrics
I will adjust my mindset towards writing, viewing it as a creative pursuit to fulfill my artistic inclinations rather than a means to generate income.
This shift will have two significant benefits:
- I will maintain a sense of motivation without being discouraged by fluctuations in metrics.
- I will concentrate solely on the writing aspect, which is undoubtedly the core of the process.
An obsession with statistics often leads to unrealistic expectations, which can ultimately diminish your enthusiasm in the long run.
Conclusion
While learning from personal experiences is invaluable, no one enjoys facing failure.
We all wish to bypass the hardships to reach success.
Nevertheless, there is wisdom in gaining insights from others’ journeys.
However, this doesn’t mean you should follow every piece of advice blindly.
Always apply your judgment and discern what resonates logically before investing your time.
Remember, each day is crucial in a rapidly saturating field of ambition.
Best of luck on your journey!
