Rediscovering Productivity: Why Re-watching Movies Matters
Written on
Chapter 1: The Misconception of Productivity
If you're like many, you might not think of Netflix as a productive use of time. However, hear me out! Recently, I've found myself revisiting films from my youth, and it's sparked some internal conflict. We live in a culture that emphasizes productivity strictly in terms of tangible results. As I watch Netflix, a part of me grapples with the idea that I should be engaging in more "productive" activities, like practicing a new language or diving into a self-help book.
Yet, after reflecting on my recent Netflix viewings, I've realized that re-watching beloved films can be productive in a unique way. What if productivity isn't solely about outcomes? What if it also encompasses activities that bring joy? Feeling good can indeed make tackling life's challenges easier. With that in mind, here are three reasons why I believe re-watching movies on Netflix can be a productive endeavor:
Section 1.1: Emotional Efficiency Through Familiarity
- Re-watching films you love can lead to emotional efficiency. When you choose to revisit a movie that you’ve previously enjoyed, you’re likely to experience that joy again. You know what to expect, which makes for a more fulfilling experience. Life is meant to be savored, and this guarantees you a pathway to enjoyment.
Subsection 1.1.1: Reflecting on Personal Growth
- Revisiting films allows you to contemplate your own growth over time. For instance, I first saw "13 Going on 30" at 14 years old and recently watched it again at 31. The experience was just as delightful. Back then, I imagined I’d be married with a child by 30, but life unfolded differently. The film’s protagonist, Jenna, achieves her 13-year-old dreams only to discover they aren’t what truly matters. Like Jenna, I too find peace in not having fulfilled my younger self's expectations.
Section 1.2: Life Lessons from the Big Screen
- Movies can impart valuable lessons that apply to everyday life. In "Princess Diaries," Mia hesitates to embrace her role as Princess of Genovia due to her fears. However, after reading a letter from her late father that reminds her courage is about acting despite fear, she decides to accept her new identity. Watching her transformation inspires me to confront my own fears.
Chapter 2: Embrace Your Next Netflix Session
So, as you gear up for your next Netflix experience, may it provide you with insights, subtly enhance your productivity, and above all, may you relish every moment.
