# Insights from a 3-Day Water Fast: My Personal Journey

Chapter 1: Introduction to My Fasting Experiment
Here it is: an unfiltered account of my experience during a three-day water fast, with only minor edits for clarity. These posts will provide an in-depth look at my daily experiences while keeping a light-hearted tone. Additionally, I’ll be sharing vlogs on my TikTok and YouTube channels (both titled Nessy Believes) to document this journey visually. For those curious about the scientific reasoning and motivations behind my fasting experiment, please refer to my previous article.
To provide some context, I began this experiment just before Christmas, and I also deal with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). I’ll touch on how this affects my experience and my medication. Let’s dive in!
Section 1.1: Day One - Morning Reflections
Monday, 6 AM
I woke up early, around 6 AM, feeling as if I had partied the night before—perhaps because I had one gin and tonic. My sleep wasn’t ideal, and I suspect I’m awake due to the anticipation of the day ahead. While I’ve researched the fasting process, I haven’t made any practical preparations. Last night, I indulged a bit too much, thinking the fullness would carry me through the morning, yet I already feel hunger creeping in. I convince myself it’s likely thirst. I ponder whether starting this fast just before Christmas is foolish or clever, given the festive environment around me. Perhaps this decision will help me avoid overindulgence during the holiday celebrations. My body might appreciate a break after last night’s feast of “unhealthy” foods—chocolate, mixed shish, and an excessive amount of cheese. Plus, I went to the gym yesterday, which may not have been the smartest move. I anticipate some muscle soreness.
12:30 PM
Due to traffic delays, I’m only now heading home. The motion of travel makes it somewhat easier to cope. I’ve only consumed water, and the hunger pangs are becoming more pronounced. A charming coffee cart adorned with festive cupcakes caught my eye, triggering an internal lament. My senses feel heightened while hungry, especially my sense of smell. I dread encountering food smells during my travels, which amplify even unpleasant scents like cigarette smoke. The journey feels extended, and I have a slight headache, likely from dropping sugar levels. The effects of dopamine withdrawal are also quite noticeable.
Section 1.2: Afternoon Challenges and Insights
3:11 PM
Earlier, I struggled with brain fog and concentration, exacerbated by the well-meaning housemates who unknowingly left out biscuits and Ferrero Rocher. Fortunately, the fog seems to have lifted. I might even feel a bit more focused, possibly alleviating some ADHD symptoms, although they remain present. My body feels heavier, and I’m slightly more irritable, but it's manageable.
4:35 PM
I hit a rough patch and need a decaf coffee to regroup. Interestingly, I’ve realized that not having to plan meals or snacks saves me time and mental energy. I’m glad I’ve allowed myself to ease off work during these three days, focusing only on what I can handle.
5:35 PM
Emerging from the crash, I find my hunger has vanished.
6:50 PM
Concentration is tough; watching food-related videos is strangely pleasurable yet torturous. While the sensation of hunger has dissipated, I feel physically immobilized, though my mind is active.
7:30 PM
On a spiritual note, I sense a quieter mind and a deeper understanding of the Buddhist concept of detachment—not about indifference but about not tying my identity to fluctuating outcomes. This brings a sense of peace. I feel acutely aware of my heartbeat, deeply in tune with my existence. I’m tired yet strangely alert.
7:58 PM
I find myself feeling emotional and reflective.
9 PM
These feelings eventually subside. I’m relieved to have completed the day and curious about what tomorrow holds.
