If you find yourself struggling to find a name that resonates, consider utilizing some of these free websites to help you breathe life into your characters.

One of my go-to resources when I’m at a loss for character names is Fantasy Name Generators. This site offers a variety of options for generating names, ranging from fantasy and folklore to real-world names. If there’s a specific book or theme that inspires you, the site can also create names that align with that aesthetic. In addition to names, it can provide locations, character descriptions, and even story ideas if you find yourself at a creative standstill.
Section 1.2: HiveWord
If you prefer a straightforward name generator, HiveWord is an excellent choice. Simply select whether you want a masculine or feminine name and hit generate. Interestingly, the results can sometimes be quite varied; for instance, selecting male names might yield options like Joan or Jessica. The site generates a list of 20 names, allowing you to continue generating until something catches your eye.
Subsection 1.2.1: Behind The Name
For those needing both names and character backstories, Behind The Name is a fascinating resource. The site allows for random name generation across various cultures, including African, Zulu, and mythological names. You can even generate a comprehensive character profile, including details such as gender, nationality, and even a projected lifespan for your character. My generated character, Aeorse Murray, is set to meet their fate on October 17, 2062, due to an unspecified illness.
